Our Teachers

Hello! I’m Carly, the Starling teacher at Rose Creative. I studied Education and Human Development at Western Washington University and then began my career teaching middle school art in California. I quickly fell in love with art education. I love how creating with my students allows them to collaborate, experiment, problem solve and express themselves. When I moved back to the PNW I had the opportunity to work at a Montessori school, before moving on to teach K-5 Art in public schools.

While I loved teaching art, my experiences teaching different grade levels in different settings taught me that I was searching for a teaching environment where I was truly able to put students’ social-emotional and developmental needs first. In preschool and at Rose Creative, I get to meet children where they’re at, using a developmentally appropriate, play-based, process-focused approach to teaching and learning. I'm thankful that I landed here and that I’m able to experience this magic with my students each day! I love helping children create, explore new things, read and write stories, build forts, and play outside. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, photography, reading, listening to music and snuggling with my dogs.

Hi, my name is Ashley and I am the Swift teacher.  I am a new Oregon resident relocating from the Bay Area, Ca.  I have been an Early Childhood educator for twenty years now.  I am so excited to begin my journey here at Rose Creative Preschool.

I learn so much everyday by observing the children in my care.  I am reminded daily to slow down, be in the moment and watch as these young humans navigate the world around them.  I am here to provide the materials, the space and the uninterrupted time for these young children to explore, create, play, investigate and learn about the world.  I enjoy reading to the children in my care and getting their insight as to what they are hearing as I am reading to them.  I enjoy watching their creativity blossom as their confidence in their abilities grow and develop.

In my spare time I enjoy thrifting, hiking, cooking, reading and exploring the outdoors.

Hello! I'm the owner/director of Rose Creative, Kathryn Dorow. I am originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan where I received my BA in Early Childhood Education as well as Elementary Education at Michigan State University in 2000.  Shortly after receiving my degree, I moved to beautiful Portland, Oregon. I have been an early childhood educator ever since, for many years as a teacher, and now as an administrator.  I have a love for and feel passionate about creating play based environments that support children's development.

I have two daughters, Ada and Una who have taught me a great deal about seeing the world through a child's eyes. I remember when Ada was three years old and she would say, "Mama, they know about kids here!" if we were someplace where they had kid sized chairs or a stool so children could reach. These small touches gave her an instant sense of belonging. I want to create these spaces where children feel they belong, have ownership, and feel excited to come to everyday.

I feel very lucky to be a part of the discovery process alongside children when they are provided a safe and stimulating environment to thrive in. The sense of wonder children hold is fostered everyday at our school and our teachers and families are able to share in this amazing process. I look forward to getting to know your family!
